This version has a different and better deathmatch area to play in.

Carton is a much better mapmaker than I am, but here's a deathmatch/capture-the-flag map. More and better maps coming soon.

Just put it in the your df2 folder.

Kizzume does the graphics, Carton does the rest.

I'm a graphics and newly-html kind of guy. Carton is a hardcore gaming kind of guy who knows the ins and outs to fps strategy and precision, and the guy is better at whatever game he sets his mind to than anyone else I've known. This isn't saying he's any sort of "god" or anything, it's just that I've never actually been that great at games except a select few--and they're OLD!! LOL!

Since C64 days I've enjoyed modifying games to look different or play different. I distributed a number of modded games back in those days on a number of BBS's. I often wonder if I'll ever find some of them when looking for c64 files in abandonware.

I've always enjoyed making abstract art. I've always wanted to work with 3d to create abstract atmospheres but had always been intimidated by the sheer magnitude of the programs. To some degree, finding out how the terrains work in df2 reminded me of when I'd mod games back on the c64.

With an engine like DF2 with an infinitely looping terrain, the possibilities of making a 3d abstract art piece was great, and the concept of infinity that computer games are capable of offering is something that I wish more games would explore.

With DF Meox, I didn't want to make it just look pretty, I wanted to be able to incorporate different gameplay styles than what the game normally offers.

I wanted it to be something fully playable without even HAVING to add buildings with a map editor if you chose not to (depending of course on what kind of map/level type you are playing). I believe I have achieved that with DF Meox.

We both put the site together. He had the idea to do it in the first place--what info to put on the site, and many aspects to how it was set up, and I did the html and graphics, except the Delta Force logo with the triangle and the sword--I just modded that.

So just so you know, I do the graphics, Carton does the hardcore gaming.

For DF2 questions, how to install the latest updates for DF2, how to install dfmeox beyond the faq I supplied, HE is the one to ask.

I'm the one to ask about graphical elements of both the message board and the game itself.

 "Why DF2?" you might ask...

"Why DF2?" you might ask....

There are 3 major reasons:

1. For starters, DF2 doesn't have the morphing terrains (particularly terrains that have tall mountainous areas) problem that the Land Warrior and Task Force Dagger engines have. The graphics in Land Warrior and BHD may look better than DF2 when you're looking down, but the tops of all the terrains look awful, so I stuck with DF2.

2. Land Warrior and Task Force Dagger have so many cheaters on it that they're not worth playing. They're seriously not worth playing. If there are cheatblockers that actually do their job for those games, please post about it in the cheatblocker section. I'd be willing to work with the shifty terrain tops if I could actually play the game without people flying around.

3. All the versions of Delta Force after Task Force Dagger have a lot of protection on them. They validate keys, which by itself isn't a problem, but if someone is found to be doing something "improper" with it, like what could happen during the process of me making terrains, my key could get locked, and I'm not willing to buy several copies so I can make a terrain.

"Why the Delta Force series of games at all?" you might ask....

First off, the Delta Force series of games uses a tiled terrain technique. The terrain goes on forever and you can WALK through that terrain forever. There aren't many games that do this.

I don't know how to create gameplay from scratch. Most of the game engines available require that you know EVERYTHING about the way a game engine works in order to create ANYTHING in them that is actually playable by anything other than the editor.

The Quake series, Unreal Tournament series, Halo, pretty much all the good engines require one knows EVERYTHING about how a graphics engine works to make ANYTHING that's playable. Yeay--I can put a terrain into the editor--it does no good without being able to set everything up to be able to play it.

If I could take some classes to learn all of that, and I could AFFORD to take classes to learn all of that, I probably wouldn't be sitting here making DF2 terrains, I'd be making new games.

Battlefield Vietnam seems like it would be a good engine to use, but its engine is so picky that it will refuse to load if it finds extra files, meaning, there's no way to share a terrain with others because files have to be replaced, not added. There is also no way to import a colormap into Battlefield Vietnam--so the whole way the terrain is colored is toast unless I drew it by hand with their crappy drawing program built into the terrain editor.

So, for right now, DF2 is the engine I choose. If someone knows of a foolproof way to do terrain editing on the newer DF games without chancing getting my key locked, please talk about it.

P.S. If anyone wants to convert this terrain to other games, please talk about it.

 Installing DF Meox

The quick explanation: Copy the files inside dfmeox.rar into the DF2 program folder. While inside the df2 program folder, Run the file called "run-me-in-df2-folder.bat". You're done.

The detailed explanation for those unfamiliar with this kind of procedure:

First thing is first:

Download the file and place it on your desktop. If you don't know where the file was downloaded, you may have to search for where it was put (start menu, search, all files and folders, type dfmeox.rar into the search bar). To make it consistent with these directions, if the file is NOT on your desktop, please move it there.

If you don't have WinRAR or a similar program already, you will need to get that. You need a program that can "un-rar" the file. A rar file is a compressed file--if you're familiar with ".zip" files, then you're already mostly there.

WinRAR is the program I usually use. I use the free version. On the free version, after the trial period runs out, it still works, you just have to close a window that basically says that you're using a trial version. You can get WinRAR at the following location, although you can get it many other places:

http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar371.exe

After you get that installed, you are ready to uncompress/un-rar the files. Double-click the dfmeox.rar and WinRAR will open. Just click the "extract" button and click OK or Next when prompted--it will create a new folder and put the files inside that folder. The folder will most likely be called "dfmeox".

We're going to go into that folder that was created in just a moment. First we need to locate your DF2 program folder. It is vital that this folder gets found. If you have a shortcut to DF2, right click it, select properties, and then select "find target" and it the folder will open. If you don't know where that folder is, you may need to do a search--an easy way to find it is to search for "df2.pff". Once you've found that file in the search option, right click it and select "open containing folder".

Now that you have that folder open, you're going to LEAVE IT OPEN, and we're going to go back to the folder that you created on the desktop. So now you're inside that new folder that was created--make sure that you have selected that window and that you didn't just move the mouse over that window. You will find several files, including a file that says "run-me-in-df2-folder". Do not attempt to run any of the files at this time.

Hold the CTRL key and hit the letter "a". This selects all the files in that folder. Now hold the CTRL key and hit the letter "c". This copies all those files you selected into the clipboard.

Now go to the DF2 folder that you didn't close, that you kept open, make sure that window is selected, and hold the CTRL key and hit the letter "v". This will paste the contents of the clipboard into the DF2 folder.

Now that you have done all these things, there's only one more step:

Double-click the file that says "run-me-in-df2-folder". You'll see a window open up and close again, most likely very quickly. It's done. The files are installed and you are ready to play DF2 with the Meox terrain.

PLEASE NOTE: If you're not playing on a server that already has maps for this terrain, you'll have to create or download some maps. Please refer to the DF Meox MAPS section to get maps.
